What does the status of my LEI mean?
The status offers important insight into the current standing of a legal entity and its LEI. Knowing what this status means is essential for maintaining regulatory compliance and ensuring accurate data analysis. The definitions for the various LEI statuses are as follows:
- ISSUED: The LEI is both active and valid. The entity is correctly registered and the LEI is authorised for use in financial transactions.
- RETIRED: The legal entity is no longer operational (for instance, due to a merger, dissolution or liquidation), rendering the LEI invalid.
- LAPSED: The LEI was not renewed by the required deadline. Consequently, the associated data may be outdated, and the code is generally viewed as invalid for the purposes of regulatory reporting.
- ANNULLED: This designation is used if an LEI was issued in error, signifying that the code was never actually valid.
- DUPLICATE: This shows that several LEIs were mistakenly issued for the same legal entity. Only one code is permitted to be active, while the others are flagged as duplicates and deemed invalid.
- PENDING_TRANSFER: A request to move the LEI to a different Local Operating Unit (LOU) has been submitted, and this process is currently underway.
- PENDING_ARCHIVAL: The LEI record is awaiting archiving, a step that frequently occurs following a transfer to a different LOU.

The second stage entails the collection of "level 2 data", which focuses on details regarding the parent company.
