Frequently asked questions about LEI renewal
How will I be notified regarding mandatory LEI renewals?
With our auto-renewal service, we inform you even sooner – two weeks before we generate the order for you. Alternatively, you can find your LEI renewal date via the GLEIF “Search” function: Just search for your LEI number and click on your company name. The date and time are listed under “Next renewal”.
Why do I need to renew my LEI?
In principle, your LEI code will remain valid indefinitely and will keep an active and updated status for 12 months after the first issuance. After one year, your LEI will continue to be publicly accessible, albeit with potentially outdated information. For this reason, the Global LEI System deems an annual check of your data essential to ensure that it remains valid and of high quality. This helps the system maintain transparency via updated LEI statuses.
Following successful annual checks of your information, your LEI will be renewed, and its status will remain active and updated for a further year.
If no validation or renewal occurs, the public LEI status will indicate that the information may be out of date. Please be aware that you may no longer be able to conduct financial transactions with this LEI status.
What are the consequences of an expired LEI code?
If an LEI is not renewed on time, its status may change to LAPSED and the entity data may no longer be considered current. Possible consequences include:
